The device is the easy part

Attendance projects are almost never judged on the reader. They are judged on whether the monthly report matches reality and lands in payroll without anyone retyping it. So we begin at the end: we ask to see how you calculate pay, then work backwards to the rules, the software, and only then the device.

Choosing the reading method for your workforce

Fingerprint is the cheapest and most familiar, but it struggles with worn, dry or dirty fingers — which is exactly the profile of factory and site workers, so it is the wrong sole choice there. Face recognition handles those environments far better and is contactless, but direct sun or strong backlight defeats it, so mounting position matters more than the specification sheet suggests. Cards are reliable and cheap but allow one employee to clock in for another. For mixed workforces we often deploy different methods at different gates rather than forcing one device on everyone.
