How we scope an intercom project

The building decides the system, not the brochure. Before anything else we establish three facts: how many units the door station must serve, what cable already exists in the risers, and whether the building is occupied. In an occupied block, pulling new cable through apartments is often impossible — which is why two-wire systems, where power, audio, video and the lock signal share a single pair, are frequently the only realistic answer regardless of budget.

What drives the price

• Number of apartments or extensions, which decides whether you need a button panel or a digital keypad door station with distributors on each floor.
• Audio or video, and screen size on the indoor units.
• Existing wiring — reusing sound risers versus running new cable is the largest single variable in an occupied building.
• Door station build: a vandal-resistant metal panel outdoors versus a plastic one that will not survive two Egyptian summers in direct sun.
• Lock type and its power supply, which we always specify as a separate circuit.

The fault we are called out for most

"The intercom works but the door will not open." It is almost never the intercom. Electric locks draw a large momentary current; an undersized power supply or thin cable drops the voltage and the lock buzzes without releasing. We give the lock its own supply and correct cable gauge from the start, which is why this call does not come back.

Our installation process

Where mobile forwarding genuinely helps

IP intercom forwards the door call to an app so you can see and speak to a visitor while away — genuinely useful for deliveries and for a home empty during the day. We keep the indoor handset as the primary device rather than removing it, because the app depends on an internet connection and the door should not.

Can I add video to an existing audio intercom?

Sometimes, depending on the existing cable. In a building wired with two pairs it is often possible; otherwise a two-wire video system is the practical upgrade.

What happens when the power goes off?

We fit a backup supply so the door station and lock keep working through a cut, which in Egypt is a practical necessity rather than an option.

Can one door station serve two buildings?

Yes with the right distributors, and it is a common arrangement in compounds with a shared entrance and separate blocks.
