The measurement comes before the model

More smart lock purchases fail on fit than on features. Before recommending anything we need the door thickness, the material, the handing — which side the hinges are on and which way it opens — and the dimensions of the existing lock case. Egyptian metal security doors in particular often carry a lock body that a generic smart lock cannot replace without machining. We measure and photograph the existing lock first; an online purchase made without this is the most common reason a lock is returned.

What drives the price

• Lock format: full mortise replacement, rim lock on the inside face, smart deadbolt, or a cylinder swap for a rented property.
• Opening methods included — fingerprint, PIN, card, app, mechanical key.
• Door material and any machining required, which is real labour on a metal door.

Two rules we do not bend

First: at least two independent ways in stay active, and one of them must work with no power and no phone. A lock whose only route in is an app will eventually leave someone standing outside their own home. Second: the emergency power contact must exist — the point on the outside face that lets you power the lock from a phone power bank after a flat battery. We confirm it before fitting, because it is the difference between an inconvenience and a locksmith.

Setup we do that most installers skip

We change the default administrator code on site — an unchanged factory code is the most common real-world weakness we find on locks already in service. We register the fingerprints properly rather than taking one hurried scan, we set up temporary and expiring codes if the property is rented, and we show you how to delete a user, which is the operation people actually need and rarely remember.

Are the fingerprints stored online?

On the locks we supply they are stored inside the lock itself, not on an external server — and that is what we recommend.
