How we calculate a fire alarm project

The calculation starts from the architectural drawing, not from a room count. Each detector covers a defined area at a defined ceiling height, and spaces with high ceilings or closed partitions need considerably more points than owners expect. We convert the drawing into an exact point count, then assign the right detector to each space: smoke for offices and corridors, heat for kitchens and garages, beam detectors for high halls.

• System type: conventional zones, or addressable identifying the individual detector.
• Point count derived from area calculation rather than estimated by eye.
• Fire-rated cable — the item most often substituted with ordinary cable in a cheap quotation, and one the owner never discovers until inspection.

• Sounders and strobes in sufficient number to be heard and seen in every corner; strobes are not decoration in a noisy factory.
